De ensemblewaarde is onderdeel van de [[waardestelling]] van een gebouw/complex. <br /> <br /> ===Ensemble als beleving===<br /> Bij de beoordeling van een ensemble is de achterliggende gedachte dat een historisch gebouw/complex ook als zodanig beleefd moet kunnen worden. Een goed bewaard gebouw dat uitgevoerd is in een mooie bouwstijl zou hoog gewaardeerd worden. Maar als logische bijgebouwen ontbreken of er een snelweg vlak naast is aangelegd, is de historische context aangetast. Het is daardoor moeilijker om de historische beleving te ervaren en je te verplaatsen in de tijd. Een boerderij waarbij stallen, schuren, hooiberg of weiland eromheen ontbreken, is bijna geen boerderij meer te noemen. Door de aantasting van het ensemble is de boerderij veranderd in een oud, boeren gebouw. De bedrijfsvoering en 'het leven van toen' is niet meer zichtbaar. <br /> <br /> ===Het landschap als ensemble===<br /> Een ensemble hoeft niet te bestaan uit alleen maar gebouwde objecten. Ook landschapselementen horen bij het ensemble. Zo heeft bijvoorbeeld elke molen een 'molenbiotoop'. Het gebouw is afhankelijk van de omgeving welke daarmee onderdeel s van het gebouw. Om te kunnen werken heeft een windmolen een open landschap nodig en een watermolen een waterweg. De inrichting van het landschap is weliswaar niet monumentaal, het kan wel een cruciaal onderdeel zijn van een gebouw/complex. <br /> <br /> Foto van de molen in het Openlucht Museum. Onderschrift: Deze molen in het Openlucht Museum in Arnhem staat in een bosrijke omgeving. Omdat de molen door wind aangedreven moet worden, is dit niet historisch correct. Het ensemble (De molenbiotoop) is weinig waardevol. <br /> <br /> Foto van de molen in Breukelen. De molenbiotoop van de Kortrijkse wipmolen te Breukelen is volledig aangetast. De waterweg is een gesloten circuit welke daardoor niet meer volgens de originele manier functioneert.
